I’ve been a BAD BAD ROBOT…

this-will-kill-you
Yes, people, it’s as bad ass as it looks. And by that I mean BAD. So much for Pokemon. Japan has just come out with a totally deadly, ambidextrous, robot “crane”. Um, yeah, like we can’t see what the purpose of this baby really is. But, is this for Japan to attack us, or to protect all of us from something EVEN DEADLIER? What do those Tokyo scientists know that we don’t? And this thing can even be REMOTE CONTROLLED in times of extreme danger – is that for it to obliterate US, or is that for it to battle giant alien ‘bots?

Now, I like Pokemon just as much as the next geek – I mean hey it’s what got me into Magic the Gathering, and we all know how awesome that schizzle is. But if I had known back then that those cute little creatures were just a precursor to this ROLLING QUADRIPEDAL TENTACLED DEATH BUGGY, I probably would’ve stuck to G.I. Joe. At least he’s got a HEART.

Many thanks to Geekologie for bringing this nightmare to our attention.

Look at the arms on that thing! It looks like it could smash through highways!

I probably would have stuck to G.I. Joe as well, but you have to admit there was something to that “Gotta Catch ‘em all!” mentality of those little buggers.

I’m a little disapointed with Geekologie using the “The…robot is actually a kind of automated mobile crane with 29 functioning joints for picking off humans…” quote from Dvice.

Now, if that quote were on the original press release, then it’d be worth a laugh (or cause of concern).

This would be interesting in seeing this monstrosity in the field someday, but not to the sacrifice of human laborers. I’d rather see this used in situations where it would be dangerous to human beings.

I wonder how fast that thing can run, maybe I can out-run it…

Wait, are those wheels on the bottom?!
    Uh-oh.We’re screwed…
    =[

  4. Methusalen says:

I was thinking those were tank treads! Just how big *IS* this thing?

  5. But… but…. Pokemon are so cute. (Except the ones that look ready to rip your head off.)

I don’t think it’d be too much of a threat. Just don’t try to piss it off.

  6. PHT says:

How can ya’ll think this is a death machine?! It looks pretty cute for a construction tool =)

  7. Emkay says:

    This thing is BIG.
Just look at how the small the doorway in the background is! I’m not sure if it can even fit through the door!

Then again, it might be able to make it’s OWN doorway…

  8. Methusalen says:

    @Emkay:
Good eye! I guess the door didn’t even register with me… So, if it’s a standard door, I only come up to the ‘cockpit-looking’ bit in the front, and can probably fit in between the tank treads!!!

Everyone *still* think this thing’s ‘cute’? I’m going to head over here and hide in the corner….

Hmmm… if the construction business doesn’t work out for this guy, I wonder if he’d be into smashing bridges or maybe even being a protector of some small colony.

  10. Be Be Umbel says:

lol, you guys think that thing looks dangerous? It probably has a top speed of about 2.3 miles an hour! rotf, it doesn’t even have any plasma cannons! How is it supposed to shoot…

    what? oh, sorry. Never mind.

  11. If it’s dangerous, I’ll hide myself behind a nice large friendly robot. End of problem. :)

  12. UFONO6 says:

Yeah, well I’m beginning to think there aren’t any “nice friendly robots” left! And there certainly won’t be once this thing gets loose.

  13. Oh, I’m sure there are a few out there. They’re just hidden, is all.

Be Be’s right: It looks pretty darned slow. And where are its weapons? I see none, so how the heck can it defend itself? This thing by itself is not really capable of Devastation. Now if it calls about a half a dozen friends, we’d be screwed.

He looks like he could DEMOLISH everything within in a mile radius just by himself. I certainly don’t want to run into him in a dark alley or for that matter, Shanghai.
